The Sound of Music - Asia! (1-25-2008)

I found out last week that I'm going to be playing Louisa in the Asia tour of the Sound of Music with Troika Entertainment! I am so thrilled about this opportunity. Some people have asked me if I'm happy about the role, and I am! It was either Louisa or Ursula the maid, who is also a nun in the ensemble, and understudies Louisa and Liesl. I'd rather play Louisa, although I'd have accepted any role on the tour.

Preparation is a little scary. I have less than two months to figure out what I'll need to do to prepare for this trip, and how to pack for it! I discovered that my passport was going to expire in April, so I sent it in to be renewed with expedited service. My VISA application (handled by Troika) can't even be processed until I get my new passport back. I'm also waiting for the results of an HIV test, which is part of the requirement to enter China and Korea (negative results, of course). All of these things need to be done and there's so little time!

I got a phone call about measurements for costumes. This is helping make the tour seem real. Until we start rehearsing, I don't think I'm going to believe that I actually got this job. I spent much of my childhood dreaming of (and auditioning for!) professional theatre. Now, as an old woman, I'm finally doing it!

Here's a photo of me during my first encounter with the Sound of Music, as Gretl.

As the first to comment, I feel it my duty to express my wholehearted support of Vivian's candidacy for Louisa. What better combo could there be: Asia, Rodgers&Hammerstein, and Vivian. And fried rice. Don't forget the fired rice.

This opportunity couldn't have come to a more talented performer. Asia is indeed fortunate! I look forward to further blog postings.

Hey... I'll be on this tour as Head Audio Engineer. I agree about how crazy the whole Chinese Visa thing is. Congrats and welcome to the team!
